SpO2 adapter and extension cables — the join between sensor and monitor
Between the sensor and the monitor there is often a third part: the adapter or extension cable that carries the platform connector on one end and the sensor connector on the other. This range lists 22 variants — Nellcor DOC-10 and DEC-8 patterns, Datex-Ohmeda TS-series adapters, Masimo-compatible and Philips-compatible extensions — because fleets are rarely pure: a hospital standardises on one sensor family while its monitors span two generations of module.
Adapter cables also change the economics of disposables: short sensors paired with a reusable extension put the costly connector and cable in the reusable stream and only the patient-side optics in the disposable one.

What an adapter can and cannot do
An adapter translates connectors within one oximetry technology — between a module generation and a sensor generation of the same platform. It does not translate technologies: no passive cable makes a Nellcor-technology sensor read on a Masimo-technology module, because the sensor electronics and calibration differ, not just the plug. Where a genuine within-platform adapter exists (the DOC-10 adapter cable in the Nellcor OxiMax ecosystem is the familiar example), it is listed with both ends specified.
- DOC-10 pattern — adapter cable in the Nellcor OxiMax ecosystem
- DEC-8 pattern — sensor extension for Nellcor platforms
- Platform extensions — Philips, Masimo, GE/Datex-Ohmeda TS-series
Specifying an adapter cable
Name both ends: the monitor or module connector (or its OEM cable reference) and the sensor family it must accept. Length matters for a second reason — total run affects cable management at the bedside, and extensions are stocked in the standard lengths per platform. If your current cable has an OEM number, that single datum specifies the whole assembly.

Questions & answers
Can an adapter let me use Nellcor sensors on a Masimo monitor?
No. Adapters translate connectors within one oximetry technology, not between technologies. The sensor platform must match the monitor's oximetry module.
What is the difference between DOC-10 and DEC-8?
DOC-10 is an adapter cable used within the Nellcor OxiMax platform; DEC-8 is an extension cable for Nellcor-platform sensors. Which one a given monitor-and-sensor pair needs depends on the combination — send both models and the match is confirmed before you order.
Do extension cables affect accuracy?
A correct, undamaged extension is part of the specified assembly for short sensors. Damaged or wrong-platform extensions are a common cause of dropouts — replace rather than repair.
